008 ["voice"]

[A couple of inkspots appear on the page, as if the owner of the journal is pondering what to write. Then a short pause, and it switches over to voice. Or perhaps "voice." After a minute of nothing but the wind and the faint sound of the river, the entry is cut off by the sound of the journal closing.

... Or is it?

About a half-hour later, there is a muffled thump and the sound of pages flapping through the air before another soft whump. Did someone... punch something over? Faintly, there's a note on a flute. Another, another... an... ear-piercing shrill.]
I don't understand why this is so- [Soft grumbling. If one listens closely, they can pick out the occasional word. Something about some "Veros" character, and several shocking allegations about questionable portions of his anatomy. Yet another pause, and then...

SHREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Shortly followed by a small splash.

...

And then hurried footsteps and a much larger one.]

[Well...that was weird. With all the unfortunate happenings with Jack Sparrow, Buffy's weird senses remain sharp. So:]

Uhm--everyone okay over there? Whoever you are?

[She'll have to give him a few moments to get back to the journal and realize that it's still recording. Damn thing. Pay no mind to the wet spots that may be forming on the page. Those don't matter at all.]

It's fine.

Yes. [What? Is this a problem? This is hardly the strangest thing that's ever happened in this village. Perfectly normal. Really.]

Just...you never struck me as a whistler.

[He has just humiliated himself publicly, hasn't he? Sigh.]

I'll put a rock on the journal to finish carving. [Wouldn't want anyone to hear his fail again.]

[Hesitantly.] It wasn't...that bad. And--hey, it takes all sorts, right? So maybe your world's music is just nothing like mine. That's probably it.

[No, it probably does- wait. Wait.] I can play. It isn't tuned yet.

Oh. [Again, hesitant silence.] I didn't realize carving and tuning went together. Shows how much I know about anything musical.

[He's not really eager to explain his failure, but he does like music and he does... well he doesn't dislike her, anyway. So-] It's a wooden flute. Until the holes and bore are right, it... does that. I didn't mean to cause alarm.

Well, if this doesn't work out for you...? You could always try making a drum, instead. A little less with the high pitch.
