[A couple of inkspots appear on the page, as if the owner of the journal is pondering what to write. Then a short pause, and it switches over to voice. Or perhaps "voice." After a minute of nothing but the wind and the faint sound of the river, the entry is cut off by the sound of the journal closing.

... Or is it?

About a half-hour later, there is a muffled thump and the sound of pages flapping through the air before another soft whump. Did someone... punch something over? Faintly, there's a note on a flute. Another, another... an... ear-piercing shrill.]
I don't understand why this is so- [Soft grumbling. If one listens closely, they can pick out the occasional word. Something about some "Veros" character, and several shocking allegations about questionable portions of his anatomy. Yet another pause, and then...

SHREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Shortly followed by a small splash.

...

And then hurried footsteps and a much larger one.]

[Looking at the journal, Zack? This face would prooobably indicate that he doesn't want to talk about it. Also that he's mildly shocked you know about it, but still doesn't want to talk about it.]

[Okee doke, everyone has their fussy secret pasts, and it's not like this Sigmund knows him enough to share. ...Actually, even the one who knew him wouldn't share. Damn you close-lipped fellows.]

I'll just take that as a "maybe". I guess there weren't any flutes at the shops? Or are you one of those do-it-yourself-ers?

... It needed to be right. [It is a testament to Zack's friendly good-natured demeanor that he is being told anything at all.]

I hope that means you can salvage it. [Because that sound - and the follow-up curses - did not sound right at all.]

I will. ...with the journal closed. [In some universes, this counts as an apology. Really]

[Good enough for him, but-]

Once you get it working, you could always play something nice to make up for it.

I may. [So non-committal and mysterious]

[Yeah, he's not surprised. Zack just laughs, because... well. Sigmund is Sigmund.] Good luck with that, man. My advice is to ditch the journal at home or something, sometimes not even rocks keep 'em shut.
