chaincutter: (soaring blade)

010 [action] Dammit, Katie

  • Aug. 12th, 2010 at 7:29 AM
[Sigmund would love to be helping to get these monsters under control, he really would. It's been far too long since he's had a proper fight. Unfortunately, that is going to have to wait a while, because certain nine year old girls in his care pick the worst times possible to run off. This child is going to worry him to death. Which means that, at the moment, he is searching every last inch of the village, attempting to not look like he's not in danger of collapsing from lack of sleep. He may just be in danger of collapsing from lack of sleep. It's not even a big village! It shouldn't be this difficult to find her!

Matters haven't exactly been helped by the summon sprite that decided they were now the very best of friends. There is a Hydrake flying after him with all of its derpy little might. If he makes a sudden stop, it tends to collide with him and chirp-squeak loudly in protest. He is generally trying to ignore it, even when it viciously attacks things in his vicinity by... blasting them with a spray of bubbles. Hydrake is not exactly the most formidable of allies.

He'd stop his hunt for a moment, if someone being chased by a zombie horde or a giant dragon or something ran by. No time for leisurely chatting, though. He is a man on a mission.]

[Meanwhile Edward will be looking rather desperately for Sigmund, so hopefully they'll be able to run into one another. There is a certain issue they need to deal with at home like NOW.]

[With their luck, they're likely to run into one another literally. They're spared that fate, however, because as Sigmund is rounding a corner, the Hydrake veers off in another direction, intrigued by the big blue person. Sigmund has been trying to ignore the thing, but it's so odd for it to suddenly oblige him and leave that he turns around again to see where it's going.

...Oh. It's Edward. He has a suspicion that this won't be good news.]

My lord! ...What... is that following you...?

[It's a Hydrake, Edward. What does it look like?] Just ignore it.

[But Ed better not have come all the way out here and stopped him just to ask about the Hydrake. This is wasting time he could be spent searching. Ed has about half a minute to start a good explanation, or he's leaving.]

Pointing back towards their house now, because HOLY HELL DRAGON]

My lord, there is a creature attacking the house! We need to get back!

[There is the briefest flicker of hesitation across Sigmund's face. The house is important, but... Katie. ...Nnnnnnnnnnnghgottasavethehouse. Sorry, kid. Maybe if you were Capell.]

Then move! [And fast, if Edward wants to catch up to Sigmund before he gets there.]

[There's just something about dashing into battle that makes Sigmund try to set new land speed records. It doesn't take very long for him to get back, confident that he can make short work of this-

WHY THE HELL IS A DRAGON SMASHING HIS HOUSE AND WHY DOES IT HAVE ARMOR]

Edward doesn't even have time to boggle over how COOL it looks, because hello, dragon, and- ...goodbye, Svala's room. Oh dear.]

[...Yeah, dragons tend to be that way. The fact that it is a dragon is a deeply personal insult to Sigmund. The fact that it is a dragon that just destroyed his- (...) Svala's room? That is the universe going one step too far.

He jumps up to the porch roof, and then what's left of the actual roof, and then makes an impressive leap at the creature's head. With any luck, he is going to plant his sword right in this dragon's eyeball. There is a line, Oh Scaly Destroyer of Houses, and you have crossed it.]

[Edward wastes no time in charging it from below, running around to the back to try and get at its underbelly. He may not be able to jump onto roofs with a single bound, but he's not taking this sitting down.]

[Sigmund's tactic unfortunately doesn't work. The dragon jerks its head away, and instead his sword sinks into its shoulder. He's shaken off and lands in a heap in the wreckage of Svala's room.]

[D8 LORD SIGMUND

And Edward can't actually see that; he's busy trying to stab the underbelly. And he would have succeeded, but the damn dragon stepped to the side to try and char Sigmund in the wreckage, and Edward dives out of the way to avoid getting squashed. Dragons are not the easiest foe to fight, clearly.]

[No, they tend not to be. Thankfully, Sigmund is up and out of the way of that attack with relatively little harm. (Probably. He thinks.) He dashes behind the thing and aims a heavy swing at the back of its legs. That's always a weak point on big creatures like this; stop it from moving and the beast is half beaten already.]

Edward! The legs!

[Roger that! Edward turns on his heel, lightning arcing across the blade as he slashes out at the dragon's closest leg. It roars in reaction to both blows, thrashing about, the sound nearly deafening. Edward honestly can't recall ever fighting something so big; it's frightening.]

[Sigmund makes the leap up to the roof again, although the dragon's thrashing hasn't done the house any favors. He's just hoping the building won't fall out from underneath him and making a calculated risk. Unlike Edward, he's an old hand at fighting things on this scale, and he knows that the longer the fight wears on, the more dangerous this is going to get. Attacking the head didn't go so well last time, but maybe, just maybe, if Edward keeps it distracted long enough...]

[With the dragon already staggering, Edward keeps moving, thrusting his sword into the creature's other leg with all the force he can muster and shifting to stand on the foot as it angrily stomps and stumbles, to avoid being crushed. Outraged, the dragon twists its head around to try and bite the swordsman off its leg, so it would be nice if Sigmund attacked before his Luceti Liberation Force dropped to one member...]

[Don't worry, Edward, your Liberator is on it. Naturally the best way to stop a dragon from eating Edward is to stab it in the face, so that's exactly what he's going to do. Edward should be used to Grinn Valestis right over his shoulders by now, right?

The dragon isn't terribly happy about the gash at the corner of its mouth, but Sigmund certainly is.]

[My hero! Not that Edward has any time to think about it. As soon as the dragon's head is away from him, he shoves on his sword, the blade tearing ruthlessly further into the leg. It might take a minute with the summon's constant struggling and lashing out, but once the sword rips free at the other side, it lacks the support to stay upright, crashing down on all fours. Still horribly dangerous, but... shorter, at least?

...And Edward probably should have moved. Having a dragon land on you is really unhealthy.]

[No, having a dragon land on you tends to be bad for your lifespan. It wasn't that great for their house, either.

Unfortunately, Sigmund has his own problems, because putting a big gash in a dragon's face tends to leave one's limbs uncomfortably close to its mouth. It's used the pole of its spear to hold one of his legs down, and Sigmund's shield constantly bashing it in the face is about the only thing protecting him. There are no words for how much he hates dragons.]

[By some great luck, Edward's new giant dragon pillow missed him enough so that he's only trapped under a wing, probably feeling one hell of a head injury, but that can come later. First order of business is getting himself free, so he thrusts his sword upwards, tearing into the wing and trying to make a convenient hole for him to get through. Hopefully that'll distract and anger the dragon enough to take a break from trying to eat Sigmund's head.]

[It's certainly not happy about Edward's efforts, no, and it stretches its neck out to try and reach him. Sigmund knows an opportunity when he sees it and wrenches his leg free, even if it does cause his ankle to twist in a way that he's sure isn't healthy. He takes his sword in both hands and jabs it upwards with all his strength, into the underside of the dragon's head. That was the opening he'd been waiting for.]

[That attack is as good as any for a killing blow; the dragon shrieks, writhing desperately for a few moments before shuddering and crashing to the ground, no longer moving.

Edward, meanwhile, has finally managed to cut himself free, climbing up onto the creature and rising to a crouch, sword half-lifted just in case.]

...Is it done, my lord?

[Sigmund stabs it again to be sure. He'd like to kick it in the head out of spite, but refrains out of respect for Edward if nothing else.]

Yes. [He takes a moment to look around him.] As is our house.

[Uuuugh. He can sort of understand why Sigmund isn't a dragon fan after this; they're not easy to fight by any means. Edward slides down the wing to return to solid ground, returning his sword to his back and getting a better look at the monstrosity.]

...An unfortunate loss.
